ASSET Basilicata organized its national workshops on May 15th ,22nd and 27th 2025 for introducing seniors and their educators/caregivers to three of the activities of the Catalogue developed by the partners of the CREAS project and for testing them. The presented activities were: "Make bags or pouches by recycling old fabrics or yarn"; “Make glass jars for lamp use”; “Handmake key rings”.

37 were the participants in the three workshops belonging to the main target groups of the project (seniors, adult educators, caregivers, trainers), all of them living in the municipality of Lauria. During the workshops the participants engaged in practical activities for the creation of handcrafted products with recycled materials such as bags, glass lamps and key rings.
The workshops helped seniors to socialize, to develop ideas, to work in a team and develop the motor-cognitive aspect. They had the opportunity to improve their imagination and creativity, their cognitive and fine motor skills including working with small pieces and paying attention to details, to re-energize their manual skills and dexterity in the use of materials and equipment, to focus on the results to be achieved etc.
Finally, they were very helpful to appreciate the meaning and importance of reusing and recycling obsolete products, to stimulate the search for an aesthetic touch, to learn about craft and art processing techniques (decoration, decoupage, sewing, etc.).
After attending the workshops, participants (both seniors and educators/caregivers) were invited to complete a short self-assessment form. Their feedbacks suggest to:
increase the frequency of workshops for active engagement of seniors;
strengthen facilities and resources;
diversify ideas and proposals to keep the elderly active and creative.
We would like to thank the members of the Local Promotion Team who helped co-facilitate the workshops: Giusy, Grazia e Pietro who provided logistical, organizational and active participation support. These workshops allowed the local promotion team to improve their skills and gain new ones, especially in managing relationships with elderly and disabled people. Thanks also to the contribution of AUSER Lauria and “Casa Alloggio Al Torrente”.
You will find the Catalogue here.
